The inaugural BBQ on the Elbow at the Calgary Stampede was held July 7-9, 2017. 23 teams competed for total prize money of $10,000. Rocky Mountain Smokers received their first Grand Champion and BBQ Team NAIT was Reserve Grand Champion. Category winners were: Baked Beans Challenge – BBQ Team NAIT, Chef’s Challenge “Midway Food on a Stick” – BBQ Team NAIT, Chicken – BBQ Team NAIT, Pork Ribs – Elbow Grease, Pork – Red Boar BBQ, Brisket – SmellaQue.
